Happy 100th Birthday, Susie!
Today at The Maples, Susie Carlin joined the ranks of a very special group…centenarians!
We celebrated with crab cakes and prime rib, live jazz and birthday cake. Susie’s son Bob and daughter-in-law were in from out-of-town to join in the fun and WMAR dropped by to report on the auspicious occasion.
Born Susan McKay in Baltimore on February 28, 1917, she was raised on Riverside Avenue in South Baltimore, and graduated from Southern High School. At a USO dance, Susie met her husband, an Army Sergeant. They married in 1944. They raised their two sons in the Northwood neighborhood and moved to Towson after retirement.
One of two secretaries in the Political Economy Department at Johns Hopkins, Susie worked with a Nobel Prize winner. She retired in 1976.
The secret? Susie attributes her longevity to hard work at a job you enjoy.
